How much does it cost to translate your website?

Enter your website's address to count its words, or type a word count. Then compare what translating it into your languages costs with a translator, machine translation, a plugin or FolioPress.

We read up to 50 pages from your sitemap (or by following your links), the way a search engine does, and respect robots.txt. Nothing is stored except the result, for a day.

Counted above, or type your own.

Not counting the language the site is written in.

Assumptions

Typical: €0.08 to €0.20.

Our estimate: about a third of a full translation.

How it works

We read your pages

Up to 50 pages from your sitemap, or found by following your links. We respect robots.txt and leave out pages that are already translations.

We count what a translator would

The visible text, titles, descriptions and image texts. Code, numbers and hidden text are left out; menus and footers are counted once.

Words times languages

Every language is translated separately, so 10,000 words into 3 languages are 30,000 words to pay for. Plugins count words the same way.

Compare the options

Per-word prices, the plan you would need at Weglot and WPML, and FolioPress's flat price. Prices are without VAT, as each company publishes them.

Questions and answers

How much does website translation cost per word?

Professional translators usually charge €0.08 to €0.20 a word, depending on the language pair and the subject; €0.12 is a common middle. Machine translation with a human review costs less, roughly a third of that. You pay again for every new or changed page.

How are words counted?

We count the words a visitor reads: page text, titles, meta descriptions and image alt texts. Numbers, code and hidden text are left out. Menus, headers and footers repeat on every page, so they are counted once. In Chinese, Japanese and Thai, characters are converted to words at 0.55, the convention WPML uses.

Why does the word count matter with Weglot or WPML?

Both charge by words: Weglot's plans have a word limit counted across all your languages, and WPML charges for automatic translation per word, per language. A bigger site or one more language can move you to a more expensive plan.

What does FolioPress cost?

€12 a month for a site in two languages, or €19 a month for all 44 languages FolioPress offers, website and hosting included. AI translation drafts are included, there is no word limit, and every language gets its own translated addresses.

Is the count exact?

It is a close estimate. We read up to 50 pages within 15 seconds; when your sitemap lists more pages we scale the average up and say so. Pages behind a login, or built only by JavaScript, can't be counted.

Do you store my website's content?

No. We keep the result (the word counts) for a day so the same check is instant, and nothing else.
